Tonight the Maryland State Highway Administration will begin removing steel beams as part of the continuing demolition of the Old Gunpowder Road Bridge where it crosses over I-95 in Prince George’s County.

The Old Gunpowder Bridge is located just north of exit 29, at MD 212 (Powder Mill Road). The demolition is a part of the construction of Contract C of the Intercounty Connector (ICC).

Removal of the steel beams will require up to three or four 15-minute traffic stoppages on I-95 Monday and Tuesday nights, October 18-19.

These traffic stoppages will occur between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. northbound, and between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. southbound. Variable message signs were placed on I-95 in the affected area earlier this week to alert motorists about interruptions to traffic.
