County Reverses Denial Of Benefits For Same Sex Couples

Baltimore County officials have decided to extend health coverage benefits to same sex married couples.

That follows a union grievance filed by a female county police officer who claimed that the county denied her coverage for the partner she married in another state.

The union also denied the grievance for Officer Margaret Selby but that decision was overturned by an arbitrator.

County Executive Kevin Kamenetz said it was sent to the health care review committee rather than put through the appeals process.

He said it was the right thing to do.

The new policy for same sex couples working for Baltimore County goes into effect as of the first of the year.
