Regular State employees subject to promotion/demotion policy
Essential functions: Responsible for serving civil processes issued by the District Court of Maryland such as; subpoenas, summonses, replevins, landlord/tenant complaints, wage and property attachments as well as show cause orders. Serves and executes warrants of restitution by evicting tenants from leased premises. Oversee the eviction of tenants from leased premises and seize real or personal property in order to satisfy debts. Posts and serves Failure to Pay Rent notices. Executes Writs of Execution, Writs of Replevin and Writs of Possession in order to satisfy debts. Advises defendants and other interested parties as to the nature of the civil processes being served. File, sort and prioritize distributed work and complete daily report. Work involves traveling in all types of weather and dealing with individuals who may be hostile and become violent. May be required to work evenings and weekends.
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Preferred Experience: Previous law enforcement or court experience. Professional experience working in potential volatile or hostile environments.
Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of the standard legal forms and documents used in the civil process. Ability to properly serve and explain papers served in civil process. Ability to communicate and provide information to the public in an effective, efficient and courteous manner, both in person and on the telephone. Ability to exercise independent judgment. Ability to exercise tact under pressure or in difficult situations with the public and diffuse situations in which parties may be hostile and in conflict with each other. Ability to recognize dangerous situations. Ability to prioritize and efficiently schedule work. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to walk and drive in all types of weather.
Ability to walk several miles a day. Ability to prepare written reports and to follow written and oral directions. Must possess a drivers license valid in the State of Maryland.
