POSITION DUTIES:   

An MSP Avionics Technician is the full performance level of work in the installation, repair and maintenance of avionics and communication systems and equipment for rotary and fixed-wing aircraft in accordance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.  Employees in this classification do not supervise, but may provide guidance to Aviation Maintenance Technician Supervisors, Aviation
Maintenance Technician Leads, Aviation Maintenance Technician Helicopter and other support staff.

Employees receive general supervision from a Program Manager or Administrator.  Employees in this classification may be subject to 24 hour on-call duty.  Work is generally performed in a hangar or a workshop. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: 

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

EXPERIENCE: 

Four years of experience installing, repairing and maintaining avionics and communications systems and equipment for rotary and fixed-wing aircraft.
        
NOTE:             

Candidates may substitute completion of an Aviation Electronics or Avionics technical program of study at a recognized training school, trade school, or college for up to one year of the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES:   

1.         Candidates appointed to positions in this classification must have or have held a Repairman Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

2.         Candidates are to possess a Federal Communications Commission General Radiotelephone Operator license, an FCC Ship Radar Endorsement, a National Association of Business and Educational Radio certificate or an Associated Public Safety Communications Officers Incorporated certificate.   

3.         Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE CLASSIFICATION:   

1.          Applicants are subject to an interview, background investigation, medical examination and polygraph examination by the Maryland State Police before a permanent appointment can be made.  A criminal conviction record could be grounds for rejection of the applicant by the hiring agency.

2.          Due to the fact that employees in this classification are subject to 24-hour on-call duty, employees are required to have a communication device so they can be contacted at anytime.

3.           Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

4.           Employees will be required to obtain an FAA Repairman Certificate within six (6) months after their appointment and an FCC Radar Endorsement within twelve months after their appointment.

SELECTION PROCESS:

            Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification and will be placed on the Employment Eligible List as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination.  The list will be used by the hiring agency to select employees. 

EXAMINATION:

            The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience related to the requirements of the position.  You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application and resume.  Ensure all experience and education related to this position is reported.
