Maryland state government rehired dozens of workers who had been fired for serious violations at state agencies.
Some of them within the three years during which they were not supposed to be
More than 60 State Transportation Department workers were terminated for various infractions.
Those included stealing, sexual harassment on the job, and even a felony conviction.
Many were picked up by state agencies which apparently ignored the rules prohibiting that for at least 3 years.
The audit found that different agencies have differing requirements for rehiring and recommended that uniform policies be adopted.
The audit points out that those fired by Transportation were not rehired by the same agency.
