State Police Make Arrest Murder Of State Game Officer

A Pennsylvania state wildlife conservation official was shot and killed last night not far from the Maryland line. 

The on-duty officer, who works for the state Game Commission, was found dead.

The officer is identified as 31 year old David Grove of Fairfield, Pa.

The shooting happened at about 10:45 p.m. in the area of Schriver and Red Rock roads south of the Gettysburg Battlefield in Freedom Township. That areas is known for “deer spotlighting,” an illegal practice. 

State Police confirmed they arrested Christopher Lynn Johnson, 27, in the shooting.

Officers were still searching for a 1999 blue Chevrolet 4 x 4 extended cab pickup truck with Pa. license plate YWC 7472.

Grove, 31, had been with the Game Commission since 2008.

The shooting happened in an area where poaching has been reported in the past.  Officers also have found people illegally spotlighting deer.
