Takoma Park police said a man who stabbed a driver during a carjacking attempt was later fatally shot as he struggled with a police officer.
Police said the 19-year-old man tried to steal a Porsche at a gas station on New Hampshire Avenue on Saturday afternoon and stabbed the resisting owner with what appeared to be a steak knife. The car’s owner was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said.
The man then took off in a Ford Focus with officers in pursuit. He struck three occupied vehicles before the Focus flipped over. As the man fled on foot, police said, an officer tried to subdue him with a stun gun. As they struggled, a second officer arrived and shot the suspect, police said.
The man was taken to a hospital where he later died, police said.
