Today We Pause to Remember Fallen Hero Officer John Stem

Today we pause to remember Officer John Stem. Officer John Stem was shot on July 6, 1977 in the Precinct1/Wilkens area while police were attempting to talk an armed person who was under the influence of drugs and was was barricaded in his family’s home into surrendering. Although paralyzed and in a wheel chair, he continued to work for the police department for several years. Officer Stem served the citizens of Baltimore County from September 22, 1969 until February 15, 1990. Officer Stem died on October 19, 2000 of complications of paraplegia caused by his line of duty wounds.

Officer Charles Huckeba was also fatally wounded during the same incident.
