A State Trooper…whose father also a state trooper was killed in a 1987 highway crash… is said to be “doing fine” after an early morning pursuit and crash in Harford County.

It started on Route 152 near Joppa, around midnight, when a driver allegedly tailgated and flashed his lights behind a trooper in an unmarked cruiser. The trooper pulled over, let the driver pass, then pursued him.

The suspect kept going…but the trooper, who took off after him, collided with a fence after the car overturned.

The suspect is 22 year old John Nussle of Joppa is being held on first degree assault, driving under the influence, and related charges.

He crashed while being pursued by Harford County Sheriff’s deputies on Singer Road in the Joppa area.

The Trooper is identified as Senior Trooper Jon Sawa.

His father…Trooper First Class John Sawa…was killed in an accident on I-95 when he and another trooper were struck by a tractor trailer while standing in the median, according to MSP’s Greg Shipley.
