George Michael Harvey of Easton, MD passed away peacefully at his home on June 28, 2024. He was 78.

Born in Amityville, NY on May 12, 1946, he was the son of Archibald “Archie” Harvey and Vita Grassi Harvey. Mr. Harvey was a graduate of the University of Maryland and then proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam from 1970 through 1971. He remained in the Reserves until 1975 and earned a National Defense Service Medal. Mr. Harvey then began his career in law enforcement. After two years with the Baltimore City Police Department, he joined the Baltimore County Police Department where he became a member of the Honor Guard during his 22-year career. He rose from recruit status and retired as Captain, having worked in various administrative departments. Most recently, he was the chief of the Easton Police Department from 1998 – 2004. His commitment to his country and his 30-year law enforcement career were among the things about which he was most proud.

Mr. Harvey was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Elks.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen Harvey; his daughters, Dawn Bellman and Kristina Hemmerich; and his grandchildren: Harvey Bellman, Caleb Hemmerich, and Marina Hemmerich; and a sister, Diane Basing of Spring Hill, FL.

Interment will be conducted at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery. A Celebration of Mr. Harvey’s life will be held at a later date.
