Brother Robert “Bob” Engle
Robert “Bob” Engle, Jr., lovingly known as “Pony Mon,” 83, of Chincoteague Island, Virginia, passed away May 3, 2024, at Tidal Health Peninsula Regional in Salisbury, Maryland. He was born on October 5, 1940, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Robert Engle, Sr. and Evelyn Burnell (Agee) Engle.
Bob served 4 years in the United States Air Force from 1960-1964. He trained at the AFB in South Carolina, where he was an Airman in the 354th Air Police Squadron. He later retired as a police officer from the Baltimore County Police Department. Bob had a passion for writing stories about anything and enjoyed telling tales to anyone who would listen. Bob had a long love of and interest for the ponies of Assateague/Chincoteague Islands, even purchasing one through the “buy back” program. His favorite things to watch were the Baltimore Orioles and anything sci-fi-related. He was a member of the FOP Baltimore County Lodge #4 and American Legion Post #159, Chincoteague Island.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Levy; sisters, Janice Brooks and her husband Leonard of Arizona and Carol Engle of Panama; daughters, Teresa Gillespie and Christina Laughman, both of Pennsylvania; as well as numerous grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson. He will be sorely missed by his loving dog, Clarence.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Sayler’s Funeral Home, Chincoteague Island, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bob’s name may be made to the Chincoteague Cultural Alliance.
