The Lodge regrets to announce the passing of Brother James McAulay

PORTAGE LAKE, ME: James Clyde McAulay, 72, passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning Jan. 4, 2025 at his residence. He was born June 9, 1952 in Ridgway, PA., the son of Mathaniel and Dorothy (Lawler) McAulay. James moved to Maine six years ago from Maryland. James served on the Baltimore County Police Department in Woodlawn and Towson in the 1970’s and 80’s. He was acting Mayor of Sykesville, MD in the early 1990’s, and Chief of Police in Hancock, MD from 1994 to 1998. James was very active in his community; he served on the Portage Lake Association, the Aroostook County Emergency Planning Commission for 5 years, and was a boat inspector.
He is survived by his wife Angela (Hoffman) McAulay of Portage Lake, a daughter Tina McAulay of Maryland, a granddaughter Danielle McAulay of Maryland, his step children Niri and Noah Scott, Tiffany and James Aitkens, Crystal Keen, Chris Sease and Stephanie Davidson and step grandchildren Mia, Kaylib,and Jordyn, a brother in law Bruce Smith Jr., two nieces Peggy (Smith) Barrett and Cecelia (Smith) Nardslico, four nephews; Bruce III, Joseph, Robert, and Thomas Smith, several great nieces and nephews. His best friend Timothy Williams Sr. and his son Timothy William Jr. of MD. He is predeceased by his parents, and a sister Cecelia (McAulay) Smith.
There will be no services. A celebration of life will be held in Maryland at a later date and in Portage on May 18, 2025.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Bowers Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Presque Isle.
