City Police Looking To Hire More Women

The Baltimore City Police Department is trying to attract more women to the job.

The city is looking to hire more than 300 new officers.

Although the city’s force does rank above the national average in the percentage of women on the job, officials said they are always looking to make their team more diverse.

“We’re just looking for good, qualified candidates who want to serve the community — not necessarily come here for the sense of adventure, but to serve the citizens and the community of Baltimore,” said Deputy Police Commissioner Deborah Owens.

City police will be holding a women’s informational event Friday from noon to 1 p.m.

The department said it is hoping the all-female atmosphere will bring more women out to the event and make them feel more comfortable asking questions.
