City Police Officers Shoot Man In South Baltimore

Monday, April 11, 2011 – Angela Jackson
Baltimore police are investigating a police-involved shooting that happened in South Baltimore Monday afternoon.

The shooting happened around 2 p.m. in the 1800 block of Light Street.

“An individual disarmed a security guard at a bank at Cross and Light Streets, he was able to take that security guard’s weapon, ended up fleeing the scene and tried to carjack a female unsuccessfully,” says police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.   “Police were led to him because neighbors were pointing us in his direction and giving us descriptions of what he was wearing.”

Guglielmi adds the suspect tried to change his appearance by shedding several layers of clothing along the way.  Some community members helped police follow the suspect, Guglielmi adds.

“When police got a hold of him, he pulled out his weapon and attempted to draw at officers, they opened fire in defense and struck him numerous times,” Guglielmi says.

The suspect has not yet been identified.  He was conscious and breathing when he left the scene. He was taken to Shock Trauma.

No officers were injured in the shooting.
