|An arbitrator has ruled in favor of two Baltimore County police officers who were seeking health benefits for their same sex spouses.
The opinion by an arbitrator cleared the way for the two female officers…who got married to their partners in another state…to start getting health coverage for their families.
Officers Margaret Selby and Juanika Ballard filed a grievance with the union soon after Baltimore County denied coverage.
The arbitrator’s ruling challenges the state’s current law that limits marriage to a man and a woman.
The Sun reported that Officer Selby and her female partner have been together for 20 years.
They were married in Massachusetts in 2009.
No word yet if the county will appeal.
