The Lodge regrets to announce the death of Robert Courtney Swartz, 63 on Tuesday May 27, 2014 at York Hospital. Born May 12, 1951 in Wheeling, WV, he was the son of the late Robert and Dorothy Swartz. He was the husband of Mary Ellen (Sommers) Swartz, his wife of 29 years.
He was a police officer with the Baltimore County Police Dept. for 20 years, where he was a member of the Elite Baltimore County Special Weapons and Tactics Team, and also served as a counter-sniper. After retirement, he worked as a bailiff for the Circuit Court of Carroll County and for a short time worked for the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office as a courtroom security officer. He was a member of the FOP; attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and enjoyed hunting, shooting, and fishing.
Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Robert Lee Swartz and wife Denise of Hampstead, Christopher David Swartz and Jonathan William Swartz, both of Manchester; granddaughter, Taylor Swartz .
Visitation will be held at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main Street, Hampstead, on Saturday, May 31 from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held during the visitation on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. Interment will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, Wheeling, WV at a later date.
