Detective In Murder Case Accused of Perjury

Friday, November 04, 2011 – Steve Fermier and Carroll County Times
State Police have started an investigation of the Carroll County Sheriff’s office following allegations that a detective perjured himself in a murder case.

The Carroll County Times reported that the controversy centers on testimony from a hearing in a Hampstead murder in which the lead detective was accused of making false statements under oath.

A higher ranking member of the sheriff’s department later refuted testimony by Doug Epperson during motions hearings.

Epperson is reported to have said that he was ordered to continue questioning the fiancee of the suspect in a stabbing death even after she asked for a lawyer.

The official said to have issued that order has denied it. The internal investigation was launched on Monday.
