COASTAL SECURITY is looking to initially hire 30-to-40 part-time and full-time Justice Protective Security Officers (JPSO) and Supervisors under a DOJ contract potentially beginning in August, 2011.
Justice Protective Security Officers (JPSO) are Department of Justice (DOJ) contract security guards who have been deputized by the U.S. Marshals Service. Within the District of Columbia, JPSOs may make warrantless arrests in the same circumstances as the Metropolitan Police, based on the authority granted in the D.C. code. This arrest authority applies on both federal and non-federal property. JPSOs ensure the safety and security of DOJ employees/DOJ contractors, visitors and property. They deter and, if warranted, detain any and all individuals posing a threat until the FPS or other civil/federal authority arrives on the scene. JPSOs currently operate at fourteen (14) separate DOJ facilities in the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia, and Southern Maryland, including at the DOJ Headquarters, the Robert F. Kennedy Building.
JPSOs must be graduates from an accredited US civilian police, US military police and/or a Federal law enforcement academy. Applicants who have graduated from a Federal or State corrections academy, (exclusive of the District of Columbia, (DC), which included firearms training and qualification to carry firearms are also eligible. They must also have at least 18 months of law enforcement experience and have (or be able to pass the screening for) a Secret level personnel security clearance (Coastal will sponsor the process for currently non-cleared applicants).

– American Red Cross First Aid certification
