An Essex teenager was sentenced Friday to 30 years in prison for his role in the murder of a wheelchair-bound man who was strangled during a robbery last year.

Andrew Minh Nguyen, 19, one of three defendants in the case, pleaded guilty in May to first-degree murder in the September 2009 death of 25-year-old Marin Jonathan Lendosky George. Four other charges were dropped.

In similar deals with prosecutors, defendants Keon Torone Samuels, 19, and Marlon Geovany Montes, 20, received 25-year terms in August. All three men will serve five years of probation upon release.

According to court documents, Nguyen and Montes said Samuels “came up with the idea to rob a drug dealer.” George was found dead in his Essex apartment on Sept. 18, 2009, with drug paraphernalia.

Police say Nguyen put his arm around George’s neck, knocked him out of his wheelchair and choked him. The other men ransacked the apartment and took jewelry, a computer, an iPod and other property, police say.

The parents of George, who was paralyzed after being shot in a bar fight in 2005, say he was not a drug dealer.
