Monday, April 04, 2011 – Steve Fermier
A former candidate for sheriff in Queen Anne’s County is under arrest after he allegedly shot a neighbor to death.

According to the sheriff’s department Charles Richter, 66, was taken into custody after the shooting last evening in Stevensville.

Dead is Mark Xander.

Lt. Dale Patrick said the victim and Richter were neighbors and had been feuding for years.

Xander was shot after he went to get his pet dog that had wandered onto Richter’s property at Emory Circle in Stevensville, Lt. Patrick said.

Richter has not been formally charged because he complained of chest pains and was being checked, Lt. Patrick said.
