Baltimore Police Officer William Torbitt is being laid to rest today.
A funeral service for the officer is being held at the Cathedral Mary Our Queen on North Charles Street this morning. Officer Torbitt was in plainclothes and outside the Select Lounge two weeks ago when he was shot and killed. Police say he was shot and killed by other officers who responded to the scene to break up a fight. Commissioner Fred Bealefeld has said that more than 40 rounds were fired by the five officers who responded to the scene. The Mayor is working to have an outside agency investigate the shooting after the police department wraps up its investigation. Following the funeral service, the procession will make its way to Arbutus Memorial Park where the officer will be buried.
