A 27-year-old Randallstown man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with an armed robbery Monday in North Point, Baltimore County Police said.

Christopher Kane Bernert, 27, of the 8600 block of Allenswood Road, also faces assault, armed robbery and firearm charges. He is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center without bail, police said Tuesday.

Officers responding to a call of a robbery in progress in the 3200 block of Wallford Drive found a man fleeing the home by way of a back porch. He was armed with a semi-automatic handgun, police said.

An officer repeatedly told the gunman to drop the weapon, but he refused and turned toward the officer, police said. The officer then fired his gun, striking the man several times. A handgun was recovered at the scene. The suspect was treated and released from Bay View Medical Center Monday.

A man and woman were at home at the time of the incident, but were not harmed. Detectives said that the intruder robbed the victims of an undisclosed amount of money before leaving the house. Police said it is not known whether there is any connection between the suspect and the victims.
