Maryland COPS Solicitation

Tuesday January 12, 2010

The following e-mail was received from Maryland State Lodge Treasurer, Bro. Earl R. Kratsch regarding solicitation by M-COPS. It is reposted for general information:

Subject: MCops Solicitations
Date: Tuesday, January 5, 2010, 12:34 PM

On January 2nd, 2010, it was brought to my attention that an organization named MCops was conducting solicitations in Maryland for their organization. Investigation found that this is a ligament organization know as MCops aka “Maryland Cops”. They have a web site which states on their home page that they are the Maryland Coalition of Police and Deputy Sheriffs, thus the MCops or Maryland Cops. This is a labor organization which represents the Sergeant’s Association of the Anne Arundel County Police Department, the Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s Department, Howard County Police Officer’s Association and the Annapolis City Police Department AFL-CIO Local. We have been receiving information that the citizens of Maryland are receiving calls which they believe are coming from our organization, the Maryland Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors. Not to criticize a legitimate organization, but this is a problem for us and for those that want to support the Maryland Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors. Legally, can we do anything about this on their play of words? Probably not. I can only suggest that you put out and pass the word that the Maryland Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors, as well as our parent organization of Concerns of Police Survivors, DOES NOT DO TELEPHONE SOLICITATION OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF SOLICITATION MARKETING TO THE PUBLIC……..

This release is being made at the request of the Board of Directors of the Maryland Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors.
