Move Afoot To Bring Speed Cameras To Area County

Monday, March 07, 2011 – Scott Wykoff
After a year-long study conducted by the Howard County Police Department regarding speeding in school zones, Howard County Executive Ken Ulman will lead a group on Tuesday announcing the introduction of Howard County legislation regarding the placement of mobile speed cameras around school zones.

Ulman will be joined tomorrow by Police Chief William McMahon, County Council member Courtney Watson and Howard County Public School System Acting Superintendent Mamie Perkins, as he makes an announcement regarding speed camera legislation in Howard County.

In 2009, the state of Maryland passed a law that allows local counties to decide on the use of speed cameras around schools in their communities.
