Police arrested a 22-year-old Brooklyn Park man at Arundel Mills mall after he tried to ram a Baltimore police car before leading police on a chase along the Baltimore Washington Parkway, Maryland State Police said Monday.

According to police, the incident began around 11:30 a.m., when city police saw a man participating in a suspected drug deal in South Baltimore and believed he had a gun. Police tried to stop the man, who was driving a 1998 Honda Accord. When the man wouldn’t stop, the pursuit began, according to police.

A state trooper on the parkway in Anne Arundel County near the city line saw the pursuit and joined in, according to state police.

During the pursuit, the driver of the Accord attempted to ram a Baltimore City police patrol car just south of Interstate 95, according to police. The officer driving the cruiser tried to evade the Accord and crashed into the median. He was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center and was being treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.

The state trooper continued the pursuit, which at times reached speeds of 100 mph, until the driver of the Accord got off the highway at Arundel Mills mall. Police said the driver struck several cars on the way into the parking lot, where the driver abandoned the car near the movie theater and ran into the mall.

The trooper chased the man and arrested him in a clothing store, police said.

State police recovered more than a dozen caplets of suspected heroin and several bags of suspected marijuana from the man, according to police. A gun was not recovered.

Darrin L. Sympton Jr., 22, of Brooklyn Park, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and heroin, fleeing and eluding, assault and resisting arrest, according to police.
