Police: Cop Shooter Out On Parole

Saturday, November 27, 2010 – Anne Kramer and the Associated Press

Police say three people will likely face charges after the shooting of a Baltimore police officer.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says the officer was shot in the shoulder area early Saturday as he approached someone who appeared to be armed. The officer is expected to recover.

Commissioner Fred Bealefeld says the suspect ran away and exchanged gunfire with other officers. The suspect was shot in the leg.

Guglielmi says the man made it to a car but crashed it up the road. Then he got into another car with at least two other suspects and was later arrested at Mercy Medical Center where he was seeking treatment.

Guglielmi says the man will be charged when he is released from the hospital.

Two others will likely be charged as accomplices.

Guglielmi tells WBAL Radio that the suspect who shot the officer is out on parole for armed robbery.

The police officer had just graduated from the academy in 2009.

No other officers were injured during the shooting.
