The trial of Baltimore police officer Gahiji Tshamba, who is charged with murder in the fatal shooting of an unarmed man last year, has been postponed to May 31 because the defense needs more time to investigate, according to city Circuit Court records.
The trial, which has been postponed before, was set for Monday.
Tshamba was charged with murder in July for shooting Tyrone Brown a dozen times in the chest and groin outside a Mount Vernon nightclub. Tshamba was off duty at the time, and witnesses said Brown groped one of Tshamba’s female companions.
Brown’s family has since filed a $270 million lawsuit, alleging that Tshamba should have been fired from the force years ago because of questionable behavior, including another off-duty shooting and a drunken-driving incident.
