|A plan to give $1250 bonuses to Harford County government employees has been met with some resistance on the Harford County Council.
Members cited a breakdown in communication with County Executive David Craig and his staff.
The decision that would have approved $11 million to pay for the bonuses was tabled this week. The money would come from a $32 million surplus in the 2010-2011 budget.
Craig says the county can afford the bonuses because of a budget surplus. Craig also noted that county employees have made personal sacrifices over the past three years and have not received a pay increase in that time while having to absorb increases in their health-care premiums and pension benefits.
