Sergeant Brad Brown, a 20-year veteran of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, suffered minor injuries Thursday afternoon after he was involved in a traffic accident.

According to Sheriff’s office spokesperson, Major Phil Kasten, at approximately 3:30 p.m. Brown was traveling westbound along Route 140 approaching the intersection of Tyrone Road when his car collided with a 2006 Jeep Liberty operated by a 61-year-old Westminster resident.

Brown was not responding to a police call for at the time, but traveling routinely with traffic.

Kasten reports that according to witness statements, the driver of the Jeep failed to yield to oncoming traffic as the Jeep turned from southbound Tyrone Road onto eastbound Route 140, crossing in front of the deputy’s car.

Brown was taken to the hospital.  He “suffered some minor lacerations to his face and burns to his hand from the air bag.  He’s been treated and released,” said Kasten early this evening in a phone interview with the Carroll Eagle.

The driver of the Jeep was taken to Carroll Hospital Center with chest pains, and was treated and released, said Kasten.

Traffic investigators from the Sheriff’s Office are investigating the collision.  Charges are pending the outcome of that investigation.
