Teen Arrested For Pointing Laser at Police

Wednesday, September 21, 2011 – Anne Kramer
Maryland State Police say a Baltimore County teenager has been arrested and charged with pointing a laser at a helicopter crew.

Police say it happened late Tuesday night in eastern Baltimore County.

State police say a 14-year-old in eastern Baltimore county used a laser pointer twice on the State Police helicopter as they were circling the area for a suicidal person.

According to the pilot they were flying in the area of Eastern Boulevard and Kingston Road when the cockpit was illuminated by the green laser.

Moments later it happened again.

Within six minutes Baltimore County Police arrived at the home of the teenager and recovered the green laser pointer.

The teen is now charged with reckless endangerment, attempted second degree assault on police, obstruction and hindering police as well as prohibited use of a laser pointer.

State police say the laser can temporarily blind the flight crew.

Greg Shipley with the State Police tells WBAL Radio there have been a half dozen laser incidents this year and two prosecutions.
