A Toys ‘R’ Us employee at Security Square Mall in Woodlawn helped rob her own store Saturday morning, according to Baltimore County police.
Police had previously report that the incident was an armed robbery committed at about 8:15 a.m., but mall security cameras show that a male suspect was working with a female store employee who is now in police custody, said Frank Meyer, general manager of Security Square Mall.
“Our security cameras showed that it was an inside job,” he said. “They were hugging and kissing before he came into the store.”
County police confirmed that the incident was not an armed robbery and that an employee was involved.
The robbery took place on one of the busiest shopping days of the year, police said.
The Toys ‘R’ Us store is one of seven small “express locations” of the toy retail giant that opened in Maryland for the months leading up to the winter holidays, according to news reports. The store opened its doors in October, according to mall officials.
