Wagner Appeals Murder Conviction

Saturday, November 19, 2011 – Robert Lang

The man convicted of killing Hopkins researcher Stephen Pitcairn during a robbery last year has appealed his case to Maryland’s second highest court.Court records indicate lawyers for John Wagner filed the appeal on Monday with Maryland’s Court of Special Appeals.

Last month, Wagner was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

A Baltimore City jury convicted him of first-degree murder in August.

Pitcairn was killed in July of last year as he was walking home from Penn Station and talking to his mother on a cell phone.

Wagner’s girlfriend Lavelva Merritt had pleaded guilty to robbery charges and testified against Wagner at trial.

… Wagner should have been sentenced to die for this heinous and horrific crime.  We can thank the liberal MD State Legislature and the equally liberal Governor for causing yet another travesty of justice in MD, once again. …
